NDIS & Allies Of Care.
How do you make a well informed decision when selecting a provider to work with?
Given the similarities of services offered by many providers, finding the right one may be daunting. Every NDIS participant holds the right to choose the manner and location of their support access. Therefore, it is crucial to identify a provider who is dedicated to collaborating with you to reach personal goals and suit unique needs.
Here are some steps to help you connect with a provider that best suits your needs.
1
Understand your support needs
Begin by determining your specific needs, goals and preferences regarding the support and services your require. It is important to know the type of support you require. The NDIS supports fall into three categories.
Core: A support that helps you complete daily living activities such as food shopping, personal hygiene, cleaning, and attending appointments.
Capital: A support for an investment, such as assistive technologies, equipment and home or vehicle modifications.
Capacity building: A support that helps you build your independence and skills. This may include activities that help improve your social skills such as community involvement. Capacity building can also assist with exercise and diet advise.
You may choose to work with one provider or several providers based on the support you require.
2
Location & Travel
Google searching providers in your local area is a great place to start. While it's true that many providers have support workers/mentors who are mobile and can deliver services wherever needed, opting for community involvement may be more convenient when seeking localized support.
3
Support workers
Consider the interests, qualities, personality and skills you are looking for in a support worker/ mentor. Communicate these preferences to your provider to ensure they match you with someone who can effectively support you.
4
Cost
Work with your plan manager to determine how frequently and for how long you can afford the service. Commmunicate with your provider to find out how much each service will cost.
5
Availability
How frequently do you require support? Is it on the same day/ same time every week? It is important that the provider is able to meet your needs for the period of your service agreement.
6
Goals
Is the provider compatible with your goals? Do you need allied health assistance? Are you in need of in-home support or mentoring? It is important that your provider is working with you to track and achieve your goals.
7
Monitor progress
Once your have found a suitable provider, regularly assess the progress and effectiveness of your support. Communicate any concerns and feedback to your provider as needed.
